What does the Changepoint School of Ministry offer?
Changepoint School of Ministry is a training and equipping programme that occurs over 1 year. For overseas students we have the option of a 10 week full immersion programme. The programme is comprised of different elements and follows an internship like structure. Students will be given opportunities to grow in Christlike character, ministry fruitfulness and leadership effectiveness.
Throughout the programme opportunities are provided for students to experience all aspects of church life and to be exposed to, explore and to engage in a range of Christian ministry activity. Opportunity is also provided to develop in a specialised ministry area such as children’s ministry, youth ministry, pastoral ministry, multimedia/creative ministry, community ministry and practical service around the Changepoint property and facilities.
What does the programme look like?
The scheduled student days are usually Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and a half day on Friday. Students are expected to participate fully in the training programme scheduled for these five days. Students are also expected to contribute to the life of Changepoint by serving voluntarily in some way outside of the School of Ministry hours. We endeavour to keep Saturdays, Mondays and Fridays free to enable students to pursue employment or other activities.
Components of School of Ministry
Classroom-based learning: The academic aspect of the programme is delivered in four streams over two formal sessions held on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. There are also occasions where informal teachings are held on a Tuesday afternoon. The four primary streams of teaching are; Know God (Mohio ake), Find Freedom (Noho watea), Discover Purpose (Tuwhiri mai) and Make a Difference (Rereke atu). Students enrolled in Vineyard College find time outside of the Changepoint School of Ministry to complete their studies.
Ministry (Practical): Students get practically involved in different ministry at the appropriate level. While the practical time is largely self-directed students are under the supervision and mentorship of ministry leaders here at Changepoint. Ministry time can include; planning, preparation and evaluation. Sometimes students will work together on a specific project or ‘housekeeping’ around the site and serving the Changepoint staff.
Spiritual Development: Students participate in spiritual development sessions on Tuesday mornings till midday. This time is led by a ministry leader but has opportunities to be student-led. This time is used for both personal and group devotion and includes; praise, worship, prayer and ministry. Students are expected to undertake devotion in their personal lives and be prepared for each day including getting themselves mentally and spiritually ready to serve in a ministry context.
Mentoring: Mentoring happens informally through relationships with ministry leaders as well as in a group setting where appropriate.
What are the age requirements? Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old or have finished highschool.
